What brings you here?

01

English for work

For professionals who have something to say.

Choose this if

Your English is good, and you want to use it with more confidence: in meetings, presentations and interviews, or simply in regular, intelligent conversation that keeps your English growing.

A session looks like

Conversation and practical language work. Your job, a presentation, your career, or simply a subject worth discussing, with honest feedback on your English.

Mentoring

An experienced sounding board.

Choose this if

You are facing a decision, a difficult situation at work or a change of direction, and want an experienced, independent view.

A session looks like

A business-focused conversation built around your situation: people, strategy, leadership, what comes next. English feedback is there if you want it.

Both are US$65 for an hour. Start wherever suits you; the conversation can go where it needs to. Not sure which? Let's see if we get on (opens in a new tab). You can only learn from someone you like and trust, and that is what the first thirty minutes is for.
In their words

They come for English. They discover more.

Chloe lives and works in Chongqing, China, in a job where judgment and diplomacy matter every day.
About an hour in, she stopped and said something had shifted. She could see options where there had only been one path.

Another great session with Gerry. I really appreciate his specific and practical feedback, not only on my English but also on my professional communication and career development. He is more than a language teacher to me, and I truly value his perspective as a mentor. Looking forward to continuing to learn from him!

My approach

The thinking behind my work.

Many capable people hold back. They stay quiet in the meeting, lead the way they think a leader is supposed to, or keep a role that stopped fitting years ago. Whether we are working on your English or on a decision, the conversation often comes back to this: what you feel permitted to say, to do and to become.

Not your traditional English teacher

I haven't had a career.

I have done many things instead. Accountant. Consultant, then Partner and COO at PwC in the Middle East. Entrepreneur, FD and CEO. Actor. Novelist. Mentor and teacher.

I know the boardrooms, interviews and difficult meetings my students are preparing for, and I have lived through a good deal of what life throws at people. That is what I bring: not only better English, but an experienced, open view of the situation behind the words.

The Letters

Not ready to talk yet? Read first.

Every couple of weeks I write a Letter about work, identity and the choices we postpone. Free, always.

The next step

Start with a free conversation.

Thirty minutes, online, free. You can only learn from someone you like and trust, so that is what we find out first. If I can help, I will say so. If I can't, I will say that too.

Let's see if we get on (opens in a new tab)
