01English for work

For professionals who have something to say.

Your English is good. These one-to-one sessions help you use it with confidence: in meetings, presentations, interviews, and in the kind of conversation that keeps your English growing.

Worried about your English? That is a reason to come, not a reason to stay on safe topics.

For B2 to C2 speakers. Some come to improve; many already speak excellent English and come to keep it sharp. Live on Zoom.

What we work on

The English you actually use.

Intelligent conversation and fluency

Not every student is preparing for something. Many simply want regular, challenging conversation in English: the news, business, ideas, culture, your own work. This is where fluency and confidence grow naturally, and many students stay for months or years.

Presentations and meetings

A strong opening, a clear story, calm answers to questions. Voice and presence, not just vocabulary.

Persuading and pitching

Why your idea matters, in thirty seconds. And answering "no" calmly.

Interviews and promotions

Your introduction, clear answers using STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result), and the follow-up questions panels really ask. A fast track if your interview is days away.

And life, too

Some things are easier to say to someone outside your life.

Relationships, family, a job you want to leave, a decision you can't discuss at home. The most useful conversations are often about what really matters to you.

I have been married and divorced. I have children. I have resigned from jobs when I was unhappy, and I now have a Ukrainian fiancée, which most of my students already know about. I am very open, and I listen as well as I talk. I won't tell you what to do, but I have probably been somewhere near where you are.

Who you will be talking to

Not your traditional English teacher.

CELTA-qualified, a chartered accountant, a former PwC Partner, an actor and a novelist, and a Crystal Palace supporter, which teaches you a great deal about patience.

Whatever you want to talk about, I have probably done it, lived it or at least argued about it. And I will tell you honestly what I think. The full story →

The basics: live on Zoom. Prices in US dollars. Book ahead if you can, because I get busy. Real life comes first: if you need to rearrange, just give me 24 hours' notice. Sometimes life is messy. That is normal.

In their words

They come for English. They discover more.

Another great session with Gerry. I really appreciate his specific and practical feedback, not only on my English but also on my professional communication and career development. He is more than a language teacher to me, and I truly value his perspective as a mentor. Looking forward to continuing to learn from him!

AmazingTalker review, November 2026

This is my fourth lesson with Gerry, and I'm really happy with it. He's open to tailoring his approach to what you need, and he's the kind of teacher you're never afraid to ask when you don't understand something. He corrects my English in a way that doesn't make me lose confidence. His international experience means he always has interesting stories to share, and we have fun discussions about culture and history.

Gerry is humorous. I am having a very good conversation with him, and he gives me a lot of confidence in speaking English.

Questions

Before you book.

Is my English good enough?

If you can hold a conversation in English and want to sound more confident and professional, yes. The sessions suit B2 to C2 speakers, including people whose English is already excellent and who want to keep it that way.

Where and when are sessions?

Online, live and one-to-one. I work with students in Asia and Europe, so times are set in UK time: weekdays 07:00 to 19:00, and weekends 07:00 to 13:30. Free slots show on the booking page (opens in a new tab), already converted to your own time zone.

Will you correct every mistake?

No. That would be exhausting for both of us. I pick out the ones that matter, the ones that change how you come across, and we work on those.

Can we really talk about football?

Yes. I played at Selhurst Park in the Croydon Primary Schools Cup final when I was ten, and I have followed Crystal Palace from the old Fourth Division to the Premier League. I still can't watch them easily: they always lose when I do. Rugby, cricket, anything else: I can talk about sport for hours.

Is there anything you won't talk about?

I can't think of a question I haven't answered yet.

The next step

Start with a free conversation.

Thirty minutes, online, free. You can only learn from someone you like and trust, so that is what we find out first. If I can help, I will say so. If I can't, I will say that too.
